OWC 6G 240GB SSD — WOW! Blazing Fast with Photoshop CS5 and File Copies

I got my hands on the new OWC 240GB SATA III 6 Gbps SSD today.

As is plain to see, its real-world performance on the diglloydMedium Photoshop benchmark sets a new performance standard for an 8GB MacBook Pro. Superb! Even better results are possible with 16GB memory, but the OWC 240GB 6G SSD has narrowed that gap substantially.

The reason the 240GB 6G SSD outperforms the 120GB 6G SSD is simple:

The 240GB OWC 6G SSD writes incompressible data at an impressive 282 MB/sec, which is more than twice the speed of the 120GB model.

Speeds with compressible data are higher still— incompressible data is the worst possible case.

In short, the 240GB model is compelling value over the 120GB model for users seeking max performance. Except and unless there is some firmware difference which will make its way into the 120GB model.

Worst case (incompressible data), the 240GB OWC 6G SSD kicks some butt.
