You have to wonder whether Apple tests anything anymore, or just flings stuff out the door on the proscribed date.
On both of my Macs*, the iPhone 15 Pro Max connects at USB 2.0 speeds 9 times out of 10—glacially slow—things that should take a minute will take hours. And that’s not the worst issue. Another Apple Core Rot bug.
Trying half a dozen different top-quality cables doesn’t matter (Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, USB-C, etc).
The issue seems to be “sticky”: when it connects at USB 3 speeds (10 Gbps), it may do so a few times in a row. But when it connects at 480 Mbps (20X slower), it likely to stay that way, no matter how many times I plug/unplug.
Apple really sold us a bill of goods on USB 3 support in these new iPhones.
* 2023 Mac Pro M2 Ultra and 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max, both running macOS Ventura 13.6.1.
