Daughter’s 2016 MacBook Pro Craps Out—What We Replaced it With
My daugher’s 2016 MacBook Pro crapped out—not repairable for less than $600, says Apple. Why should the thing ever fail? POS IMO—my 2012 MacBook Pros have never failed in spite of running 24X7 as servers.
My daughter wants small and light. So while I personally would go with MacBook Pro, her needs are much more basic so the MacBook Air is the ticket.
I did all the math. By the time you look at educational discount vs refurbished (not avail with 16GB at present) and then sales tax and other discounts, it all came down to B&H Photo having the best deal, using the B&H Payboo card to pay, which pays the sales tax for you (9.25% for us). We added AppleCare for $199, what an insulting rip-off, but what can you do with the shitty 1 year warranty? She already had to fix the 2016 MBP once about two years ago (under AppleCare)—gotta have AppleCare.
