I am writing because I am a great fan of your work, and have been for a while.
While getting caught up on reading your latest MacPerformance Guide entries tonight, it occurred to me how much I have learned from your teaching over the years and how much enjoyment I have gotten out of using my computer after absorbing your ingenious know-how.
I have about 18 OWC Thunderbay 4 enclosures for my 2013 Mac Pro Trash Can model and about 150 Western Digital 4TB Black Hard Drives which I use along with about a dozen other OWC components, most of which which you have promoted over the years. I love them all.
I am writing to say think you and let you know I have never come across anyone else who ever shared the same kind of knowledge about using computers as you have.
For about the past 15 or 20 years, I have lived and breathed SoftRAID and Hard Drives after you. I was shooting and editing my own TV show at one point based on your advanced knowledge. It aired on the local CW channel here for about 5 years and I did the entire production myself, the filming and editing based on how much you had showed me that my Mac computer had the ability to do.
I still highly enjoy each time I browse your website and come across the articles where you explain how RAID drives work and how to get your transfer speeds at the highest by utilizing only the outer portion of the hard drive.
Just a few of the many OWC RAID-Capable Devices
It is information like that, along with the rest of what you have been kind enough to share freely through your website that has made my experience using Mac computers so much more enjoyable than what the vast majority of others are experiencing. The first time I hooked up a RAID-0 enclosure and clocked the transfer speeds at past 1000 mb/s it was such a thrill, I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
Yes, over time, it seems we are all at the mercy of Apple and their practices, whether you are serious about switching to another company or not, I don’t know. But I understand the same frustrations you discuss and wonder if the rest of the world sees the same kinds of things or not. I know the majority of those I know wouldn’t know a computer part from a hole in the wall, but I do throughly enjoy all your hard work over the years and how much satisfaction it has given me to go out and use the skills you have taught me.
There is just no one else who teaches the kind of information that you do, and I want to say thanks, I have greatly appreciated it.
MPG: and I appreciate the letter!
