This test uses all CPU cores, which implies an easy victory for more than 4 CPU cores. But the reality is that disk I/O even on a very fast SSD constrains things, and here the test times were taken with source files already in cache.
The 2017 iMac 5K takes 44% longer—nice but not nearly as much s one might wish for. Still, with disk I/O and serialized build junctures, it’s not bad.

Below, the 2017 iMac 5K rocks in terms of perfrmance per CPU core as compared to any Mac Pro—kudos.
The 10-core iMac Pro cuts the time of the 2017 iMac 5K by 21%—worthwhile if one builds repeatedly all day long, but the 8-core iMac Pro cuts build time by only by 6%—very poor value given the price difference.
