The latest incarnation of the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Mini USB3/eSATA enclosure delivers notably higher performance than the model I tested in 2012— firmware update.

Tested with the same 480GB OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD as before.

This is fantastic performance from a single-drive external unit suitable for just about any high-performance task, and far faster than possible with the internal SATA ports of the current Mac Pro. It’s not up to the peak speeds possible with a 6G SSD installed on a SATA 6G port, but it’s about as good as one could hope for on USB3.
