Blue Shield Health Care: Internet Incompetence in mid-2013
I had thought that the refrain of “compatible with Internet Explorer only” was over and done with.
Today I tried using my health-care provider login (Blue Shield), only to discover the problem below. Upon calling customer service, I was informed that the Payment Center area is compatible with ONLY the Internet Explorer web browser (layered incompetence: why not say so instead of proffering an erroneous message?). There exists no IE for Apple OS X.
You can’t make this stuff up: a huge health care company with deep resources can’t make a web site function on standard internet web browsers. This must be part and parcel of the self-congratulatory Blue Shield “efficiencies”; they certainly save money in other ways, like denying claims and minimizing in-network doctor availability.
Update: some readers have suggested using the Develop menu in Safari to set the User Agent to Internet Explorer. Aside from forcing a login-timeout, the attempt fails with the same error.
