Speed: RAID-5 vs RAID-0
Related: fault tolerance, RAID, RAID-0, RAID-4, RAID-5, storage
See About RAID.
When tested on a faster CPU*, the RAID-5 performance notchs to a higher level (same drives and enclosure). Write speed is up to 400 MB/sec from ~370MB/sec.
CPU speed is involved because RAID-5 must compute an XOR to generate the parity information; this is single threaded so a high Turbo Boost clock speed can really speed things up.
RAID-5 are the lower red and green lines.
(SoftRAID 5 beta)
When tested on a faster CPU* with the same drives and enclosure, the RAID-5 performance notches to a higher level: read speed is similar, but write speed has risen to 400 MB/sec (below) from ~370MB/sec (above).
RAID-5 are the lower red and blue lines.
