OWC ThunderBay FLEX 8

MPG tested the OWC Thunderbay Flex 8 with four 2TB SSDs and four Toshiba 4TB MG04ACA hard drives. Configurations up to 128TB (8 X 16TB) possible.

This page evaluates RAID-0 stripe performance of the OWC FLEX 8 across the entire capacity of the 16TB volume (4 X 4TB hard drives).

Test mule was the 2018 Mac mini. The fill-volume command of diglloydTools Disktester was used.

Tested with 128GB Sony SF-G TOUGH card.

When you have 60GB to download (as I often do after a day’s shoot), SD card speed is a big deal if I’ve been out hiking all day and want to download and backup and then get to bed.

This is about as fast as this SD card ever reads; the OWC ThunderBay FLEX 8 delivers outstanding read and write speeds for the 128GB Sony SF-G TOUGH card, far faster than the built-in card slot of the 2019 iMac 5K.
