Apple 2023 MacBook Pro M3 Max: Intolerably Noisy with full GPU Usage
re: Apple 2023 MacBook Pro M3 Max: my Perspective on Apple’s Powerful New Laptops
MPG tested the Apple 14" 2023 MacBook Pro M3 Max 128GB /4TB, model Z1AU002AK.
My 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max and 2023 MacBook Pro M2 Ultra have no such issue, both are whisper quiet under the same test scenario.
A chassis with a destktop-class chipset shoehorned into a tiny laptop emitting 47 watts from the GPU alone makes a ton of noise up to 62 dB.
Intolerable unacceptable noise level with reduced GPU performance and a strong likelihood of early failure.
2023 MacBook Pro M3 Max: Intolerably Loud Fan Noise.
Impressive chipset + insufficient cooling = bad design.

Again, highly informative. I'm really grateful for these tests. Nothing else I can find on the web comes close. There used to be at least a few websites that did reasonably practice-oriented tests, but best case now is some irrelevant synthetic benchmarks comparing to Windows models I need no comparison to... Or people write "Reviews" and the "Performance" section says "we didn't actually test the machine, but given its specs, it should perform really well!".
DIGLLOYD: and I’m grateful to anyone who uses my links to buy—it helps me, and it rewards B&H Photo for so generously provided two laptops for testing.
