2013 Apple Mac Pro: Pure Elegance, Visualized
See the large number of recent articles on the new Mac Pro for context (most prefixed with “2013 Mac Pro”), in particular Thoughts on a Switchover from Existing Tower.
Giga.de posts an image which captures the elegant new approach of the 2013 'trashcan' Mac Pro versus the obsolete approach of the current model.
It would be funny if it weren’t conceptually fugly. And at least it is bear-proof.
If anything, this visualization might understate the problem, at least for me. I can’t know for sure what products will happen, but the pile and cable mess won’t be small. The following come to mind right off the bat:
- External DVD burner.
- Where to house 4 X 4TB drives.
- Where to house 3 X 480GB SSDs and 1 X 960GB SSD.
- Where to house 2 X 960GB PCIe SSDs.
- eSATA connectivity for my large collection of backup drives.
- Need for additional USB 3 ports if to be used as eSATA supplement.
There are multiple-drive enclosures, but all of the above add up to a lot of external gear making the pile below not far off my actual needs.
Not every user needs a DVD or BluRay burner and all those drives. Nor does it make sense to stack up single drive units as shown (use a 4-bay unit for example). But in my case I have some expensive SSDs and also big hard drives that need a “home” and so my “pile” won’t be small. And I’ll need more USB3 ports and while I rarely burn DVDs, I do need to do so occassionally.
