Possible new Retina Displays
The new high resolution Retina display by Sharp Electronics look quite interesting for possible inclusion in a new MacBook Pro or MacBook Air.
In particular, the 15.6-inch panel at 3200 X 1800 looks quite enticing for a replacement for the existing 15-inch MacBook Pro: it would provide a 14% wider screen than the current 2880 X 1800 screen, handy for high-resolution photo work with programs like Lightroom and Photoshop, which need some space at left or right for palettes.
Using a ruler, I measured the current 2800 X 1800 MBP Retina screen at 13 inches wide for a pixel density of 215 ppi. It is about 15.4 inches diagonally and usese IPS technology, Apple states it as having 220 ppi, though that conflicts with my actual measurements.
Equally interesting is the 3200 X 1800 display in the 14-inch form factor, which would fit nicely into a slightly smaller MacBook Pro, or largish MacBook Air.
Of course what I really want is a ~30-inch desktop display at 5120 X 3200 (3840 X 2400 would be fine too), but that is not expected any time soon.
