How to Show / Unhide the Library Folder in Your Home Directory (Mac OS X)
Matthew C writes:
I know I would benefit from learning how to disable iTunes and its User Agreement; perhaps your MPG readers would too. I do not agree to it, but I am forced to refuse it every single time. It's a real annoyance when I press the play button on the keyboard - the user agreement pops up every time. This is a degradation of function from other versions of OSX.
I am also really annoyed when I have to open terminal and fool with a command line just to show the files in my own library folder.
Also, now that I have an accelsior installed, the main bottleneck in my Mac Pro is still the spinning hard disks. I have OSX set to idle the HDDs after a short time (presumably, this saves some energy). In many programs when I enter an Open or Save dialog, the OS beachballs for a minute while it spins up all the disks - even if those were not the source or destination. I know the OS has no way of knowing my intention, but it seems like there should be a way to select an option to only spin up the disk when requested specifically.
DIGLLOYD MPG: I can’t speak to the iTunes situation. But William S writes with iTunes preference tweaks. These are provided for information only, this site is not necessarily recommending them:
# iTunes 9: Used in-store when activating devices defaults write com.apple.itunes StoreActivationMode -bool true # disable automatic device backup defaults write com.apple.itunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true # disable automatic device backup COMPLETLY defaults delete com.apple.itunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true # Disable Ping Sidebar defaults write com.apple.iTunes disablePingSidebar -bool true # Disable Genius Sidebar defaults delete com.apple.itunes disableGeniusSidebar -bool true # Hides the dropdown Ping menu defaults write com.apple.iTunes hide-ping-dropdown -bool true # Store Genius Mode Disabled defaults write com.apple.itunes StoreGeniusMode -bool false

As far as the Library folder in your home directory, see How to Unhide your Library Folder on OS X in my Setting Up Your Mac Series.
chflags nohidden ~/Library

Let 'em spin. The oceans won’t overflow.
