My 17" MacBook Pro Lemon Still Has SATA 6G Problems
My 17" MacBook Pro still has problems.
I installed the high performance just-released 480GB OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD into my 17" MacBook Pro, and immediately had reliability problems, which are the fault of the MacBook pro, NOT the SSD.
So I went out and bought a 13" MacBook Pro (which has been proven to be free of the design defects plaguing the 17" model), installed the OWC 480GB SSD into it, ran a DiskTester reliability test for hours and also a fill-volume test— no problems whatsoever on the 13" model, just consistent high performance.
I’m very displeased that my replacement 17" MacBook Pro is still a lemon. After a while, I got the 480GB SSD to function properly, but it shows the same erratic performance that I saw with the first sample of the 17" MacBook Pro, which had even more serious problems.
I recommend sticking with the 15" or 13" 2011 MacBook Pro, and if your 17" model has issues with 6G SATA, demand a refund, which is what I plan to do— I’ve had enough.
