MacBook Pro with Retina Display

I’ll be doing an in-depth review of the new 15-inch MacBook Pro with the 2880 X 1800 Retina display, with any eye to photographers in particular.

Order the new MacBook Pro through my links, thank you!

That’s 26% more screen real estate then my NEC 30" display, which is “only” 2560 X 1600. Wow!

Of course, most apps will be pixel-doubled until they are updated to support the new resolution, but Photoshop CS6 is reportedly due for such an update.

Regrettably, the new MBP is due to deliver one day after I leave for a trip! So it will sit for a week before I can review it.

Retina display

The new display isn’t just huge in terms of display area, Apple claims that it has 75% less reflection and 29% higher contrast, with a 178° viewing angle. Surely this will be one killer machine for field-use for photography.

CPU

I ordered mine with the fastest 2.7 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, which should pack the punch of the current 6-core 3.33 GHz Mac Pro, or at least come close (see my review of the Apple quad-core MacBook Pro, this new model is faster, how much as yet is unclear).

Memory

Finally Apple offers 16GB officially. Too bad it’s not up to 32GB. Probably not upgradeable at all.

Storage

It’s unclear whether one can upgrade the storage later.
