NEC Offers DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort Cable PA-MDP-CABL to Resolve Sleep Issues With Multiple Displays

Following up with the final installment of the Mac Pro 2010 sleep problem with multiple displays (see my Jan 25 entry for details), NEC will begin offering tomorrow the Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable PA-MDP-CABL for about $40.

That’s more than a cable you can find elsewhere, but it works. The other 4 or 5 cables I tried did not work. And please note that the wake-from-sleep problem is not specific to NEC displays, and generally is only an issue with dual displays.

Existing NEC PA series display customers can get the cable included as part of the free accessories offer. Eligible models include: PA231W-BK, PA231W-BK-SV, PA241W-BK, PA241W-BK-SV, PA271W-BK, PA271W-BK-SV, LCD3090WQXi-BK, LCD3090W-BK-SV.

I’ve been using this cable for about 6 weeks, and it has resolved the issue with the exception of a very sporadic problem apparently due to the video card itself, which Apple needs to fix.
