Reader feedback: Upgraded my New Mac Pro 4-core According to Your Suggestions
This popped up in my email today:
Thank you, I've finished verifying all the disks with DiskTester. Quite a time consuming task, but well worth it for the peace of mind.
By the way, I would like to take note and thank you for all the clear, precise advice you have given on MacPerformanceGuide.com! It has proven itself to be very valuable, and saved me lots of headache trying to configure this up.
I have set up and upgraded my new Mac Pro quad-core according to your suggestions: 120GB Mercury Extreme Pro SSD in lower optical bay (mine is dangling there as well - I suppose I'll get a mount from OWC next time I order something with them :)
4 X 2TB internal 7200 rpm HDDs, setup as raid-0 striped data volume on two disks, (as well as a 100 GB Photoshop scratch along with it), and a raid-1 mirror volume for Time Machine on the other two.
2 X external 2TB bare HDDs through SATA card you recommended & Voyager Q, rotated weekly, stored off-site (+continuous online backup through CrashPlan- I find it a great value at $100/year for unlimited backups for all my 3 computers at my home office.)
The speed bump from my 2009 17" MBP is incredible. Add to that the peace of mind I now have and the much reduced level of constant stress of trying to keep everything in order, and backed up. as a wedding and portrait photographer, I can very much appreciate that.
Keep up the good work! — Murat A.
